It’s official, absinthe is now legally available in the United States, and Bostonist and the Boston Globe have found some good places to sit back and have a drink. Although the drink has been available in its ‘wormwood free’ form (think alcohol-free beer) the true absinthe (which has been none to sneak into my liquor cabinet from Amsterdam) has been banned from being sold (not banned to posses) for almost a century. So they reversed their stance and found the amounts of thujone to be acceptable, and that they were mistaken on its effects (according to wiki)? Corrections of this type are always good news. I wonder how this will effect the medicinal recommendations of the herb itself. The wormwood plant is a weed of over-grazed pastures out here and quite frankly smells rather rank to me. An acquired taste, perhaps?
